Concept art: hundreds of figures seated in rows on riverfront steps in cold smoke at first light, temple architecture behind them.

An investigative reporter who spent his daughter’s childhood working, flies to India to spend her birthday with her. She is gone before he arrives. What begins as a father’s search becomes a route march across a country he does not understand — Goa to Karnataka, Delhi to the foothills — chasing a network that is bigger at every turn than he was told. The trail ends at the edge of the Himalayas, at a valley that has been taking women for two hundred years and has never once been asked to explain itself.

Concept art: a fair-haired young woman sitting cross-legged on a night bus, writing in a notebook by the light of her phone.
A young woman is travelling through India. Coast, river, festival, no plans past the next town.
Concept art: a weathered man in his fifties in a worn field jacket leaning on a counter under a bare bulb, talking to an official across it.
A father who spent her childhood working, flies out to see her. She is gone before he arrives.
Concept art: a fair-haired man in his sixties in a pale wool shirt holding a burning torch, one hand on the cheek of a hooded young person beside him, a snowbound village behind them.
A ruthless leader rules a village that no map shows. A lifetime guarding a bloodline, undone by a face he recognised.
Concept art: bonfires burning on a night beach, a crowd standing around them, string lights along the shore behind.
Where she went
Concept art: a barred timber door set into a stone wall in deep snow, one lantern burning beside it, snow peaks behind.
Where she was taken
Concept art: a single vehicle on a switchback road cut into a bare mountainside under storm light.

The trail does not
narrow. It widens.

Concept art: several hundred villagers standing in exact ranks in a snow-covered square at dusk, backs to camera, in blocks of cream, crimson and slate blue, lanterns set on the ground between the rows.

67Ext. Spiti Valley - sundown

A few hundred people at the top of a valley that is cut off for most of the year, speaking a language nobody around them speaks, farming ground nobody else wants.

Concept art: a fair-haired man in white ceremonial robes standing on a timber platform with his arms spread, addressing a crowd of villagers in a snowbound square at sunrise, banners and drums around him.

Two hundred years of exploiting young women, and not one question ever asked.

It is not hidden.
It has been left alone.

They are there now.

The valley is not a case that closes. Getting one person out does not end it, and that is where the second season is.

Concept art: several fair-haired young women in undyed grey wool sitting together on the floor of a stone room lit by one window and a low fire.
